Drimnagh Castle Réalt Dearg "A" 3-14 v 2-8 Civil Service Following the championship heroics on Thursday evening, Réalt Dearg got back to winning ways with an impressive 9 point victory over Civil Service at Drimnagh Castle. Playing with the aid of the elements in the first half, the home side got off to a dream start with Kevin Ryan goaling in the opening exchanges. The Stars continued to exert their dominance picking off some fine scores with Frank Farrell, Martin Murphy and Paul Warren getting on the scoresheet and Padraig Buckley causing plenty of worries for the Civil Service defence. The away side kept themselves in touch with some long range frees against the breeze. At the break, the scoreline of 1-8 to 4 points probably did not reflect the Réalt Dearg dominance in the opening period, particularly with the stiffening breeze favouring Civil Service for the second half. Four points were shared by both teams early in the second half before a goal from Cian Liddy appeared to put some daylight between the sides. However, Civil Service responded quickly with a three-pointer of their own to immediately reduce the deficit. Points continued to be exchanged, including well-worked team scores from Kevin Ryan and Niall Mullane, until a long range effort from Martin Murphy deceived the goalkeeper who could only palm the ball into the roof of the net. From then until the end Réalt Dearg looked to in control led admirably by heroic defensive performances from Colm Gahan, Mike Richardson and Cathal Hester. They were ably assisted by substitute Declan Ryan, whose "light contact" in keeping a Civil Service attacker at bay was an inspiring moment. The game finished with a kicked goal by Civil Service but by that stage, Réalt Dearg had done more than enough to secure the two points. Réalt Dearg: Gary Thompson, Ultan Dillon, Cathal Hester, Mike Richardson, Brian Gavin, Colm Gahan, Ronan Moloney, Eoin O'Dwyer (capt), Paul Warren, Niall Mullane, Martin Murphy, Padraig Buckley, Kevin Ryan, Frank Farrell, Cian Liddy. Substitutes: Tom Kehoe, Colm Griffin, Declan Ryan, Stephen Barry, Conor O'Droma
