AHL 9 St Finians versus Realt Dearg C Realt Dearg's C Team rounded out a very busy weekend for the club by taking to the field against St Finians in River Valley. A great day for the club with our second team in a county final for the second year in a row. Details of the game on Sunday 11 September to follow in fixtures. Realt Dearg: Marc McLiam, Mike Richardson, Caoimhin Concannon, Gavin O'Connell, Ronan Moloney, Tom Kehoe, Aodan Hurley, David O'Connell, Conor O'Droma, James Kenny, Steve Barry, Stephen Casey, Shane Murphy, Rory Kavanagh, Keith Lawlor Junior C Championship Realt Dearg A versus Skerries Harps A very disappointing result for Realt Dearg's A team. The game started with Realt Dearg on the attack. A goal from play was called back for a penalty which we then scored which was also disallowed for a foot over the 21 yard line. The result hop ball resulted in a free out. The was the start of an unfortunate theme for the day. We battled hard but couldn't get the right side of the man in the middle. Réalt Dearg A 3-14 v 0-9 Kilmacud Crokes Drimnagh Castle, 19 June 2016 A key game in the Junior C championship with the two undefeated teams competing to top Group 2. Home draws for the knock-out stages at stake. Tricky, slippery conditions resulted in a slow start to this game from the Stars men with Kilmacud getting some early scores. The men in black gradually began to find their feet and eventually reached the break with a 4 point lead. The real story of this game was epitomised by the exceptional workrate and relentless pressure exhibited by Réalt Dearg in the second half. Time and time again, Crokes were repelled by the well organised defence which conceded just two points in the second period. Excellent interplay, teamwork and superior fitness were the reasons for victory as the Stars ran out big winners in the end. Serious kudos to Derek Kenny for marauding from a point from cornerback which was a particular highlight. Réalt Dearg: Gary Thompson, Derek Kenny, Cathal Hester, Brian Gavin, Eoin O’Dwyer, Niall Mullane, John Barry, Paul Warren, Conor Maharaj, John Tarpey, Colm Gahan, Matt Lynch, Jamie O’Hara, Gary Hurney, Martin Murphy Podge Buckley, Ronan Conlon, John O’Callaghan, Ultan Dillon AHL 8
Castleknock 2 - 05 Realt Dearg B 3-15 Sliverpark The Stars recorded a second victory of the week for the club with another fine performance against Castleknock thanks to goals from James Kenny, Rory O'Loughlin and Deise. We had our prodigal sons back in the guise of Mick Conlon and Stephen Bunny who both contributed points. Also a mention for Dave Berney who made his debut for the club. Team: Marc Mac Liam, David O'Connell , Barry Ruth, Kevin Deady, Mike Richardson, Ronan Moloney, Tom Keohoe, Ultan Dillon, Ronan Conlon, Stephen Casey, Stephen Bunney, James Kenny, Jack McNamara, Rory O'Loughlin, Shane Murphy Subs: Mick Conlon, David Berney, JB, John O’Callaghan AHL9 Na Fianna vs Realt Dearg Collinstown Lane No confirmed final score on this but Na Fianna did win comfortably. Still it was great to get a second team fielded for a midweek fixture. The match also seen a trio of players, James Brooks, Michael Cummins and Bernard Herlihy, make their debut for the club. Welcome to the club lads. Thanks to everyone who togged out and made it to the game. Kilmacud Crokes 2-10 Realt Dearg 'A' 3-17 Realt Dearg recorded an impressive win over Kilmacud in Silverpark on a great evening for a hurling match. The Stars got off to a flier with first half goals from O'D and Tarpey leading by 6 points at half time 2-06 to 6 points. The lads kicked on in the second half thanks to a goal from Martin Murphy from a free. Kilmacud had 2 lads sent off but the Stars kept the peddle on the metal and finished with a flurry of points from the forwards including the substitutes. Ronan Conlon made his RD debut and was very impressive. If he's looking for inspiration he need look no further than Podge Buckley who informed the sideline on several occasions he was feeling pushed to his limits in the second half but hared after each ball hit in like his life depended on it. No fault Team: Gary Thompson, Chubba, Hesty, Hitman, Derek McKenna, Niall Mullane, Brendan Walsh, Paulie, O'D, Ronon Conlon, Colm Gahan, Matt Lynch, Martin Murphy (KK), Tarpey and Podge. Subs: John O'Callaghan, Gary Hurney, JB, Ultan, Mike Richardson and Deise Thanks to everyone who turned out last Saturday for Trevs testimonial. Thanks to Commercials Hurling Club who provided the opposition on the day. Thanks also to Tom Doyle who did up a class picture of captain fantastic himself Trevor Jackman. A huge loss he will be on the pitch but hopefully involved with the club for many years to come.
